Healing in healthy rats was too fast for either agent to improve; in the delayed-healing hyperglycaemic rats PL 14736 accelerated macroscopic healing dose-dependently, matching becaplermin at the top doses, with more organised granulation tissue — while wound contraction on planimetry was unchanged.

Full-thickness excisional wounds in healthy and alloxan-hyperglycaemic rats, to day 7
Intervention
Topical PL 14736 gel, 10–1,000 µg per wound
Comparator
Becaplermin gel (PDGF-BB) and vehicle
Limitations
Company laboratory; the benefit appears only where healing is already impaired, and the objective planimetry endpoint was null while the macroscopic score moved.
