Evaluation of the effects of topical tripeptide-copper complex and zinc oxide on open-wound healing in rabbits

Unhealed area was significantly smaller and contraction significantly greater than untreated at days 7, 14 and 21, and smaller than zinc oxide at day 7. Granulation cover of the wound bed arrived sooner, and neovascularisation was most marked in the copper-tripeptide group.

Population
18 New Zealand rabbits, one full-thickness wound each side of the dorsal midline
Intervention
Topical tripeptide-copper complex daily for 21 days
Comparator
Zinc oxide and no treatment
Limitations
Dermal wounds; planimetry and histopathology without blinded assessors described in the abstract. Advantage over zinc oxide held only at day 7.
