Gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157 and short bowel syndrome in rats

Sever M, Klicek R, Radic B, Seiwerth S, Sikiric P, et al. · Digestive Diseases and Sciences

Preclinicalcounts toward this tier

Controls lost weight from the outset with jejunal and ileal overdilation; treated animals gained weight above pre-operative values immediately by either route, with taller villi, deeper crypts, thicker circular muscle, preserved jejunum-to-ileum ratio and greater anastomosis breaking strength.

Population
Rats with massive small-bowel resection and progressive weight loss, followed four weeks
Intervention
BPC 157 10 µg/kg or 10 ng/kg per-orally in drinking water or intraperitoneally
Comparator
Untreated resected controls
Limitations
Originating network; the anastomotic strength result is the only objective mechanical endpoint.
