Effects of resveratrol on cerebral blood flow variables and cognitive performance in humans: a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover investigation

Kennedy DO, Wightman EL, Reay JL, Lietz G, Okello EJ, Wilde A · The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition

Promisingcounts toward this tier

Frontal-cortex blood flow rose dose-dependently during cognitive tasks, with increased deoxyhaemoglobin suggesting greater oxygen extraction. Cognitive performance itself was not affected at either dose.

Population
Healthy adults
Intervention
Single doses of 250 mg and 500 mg trans-resveratrol, counterbalanced crossover
Comparator
Placebo
Limitations
Acute single doses in 22 healthy young adults; near-infrared spectroscopy is an indirect measure of blood flow. A physiological effect without a functional one.
