Pro-Hyp stimulated hyaluronic acid production in cultured synovium cells and was detectable in guinea pig blood after oral collagen hydrolysate. Orally administered hydrolysate increased proteoglycan content in the epiphyses and reduced the morphological changes of osteoarthritic cartilage destruction in the knee.

Guinea pig model; the in-vitro arm may be subject to the fetal-bovine-serum Pro-Hyp contamination issue later identified in pmid-31905705.
