Anecdotalcounts toward this tierThe use of continuous passive motion following knee cartilage defect surgery: a systematic review
Fazalare JA, et al. · Orthopedics
Anecdotalcounts toward this tier
Despite near-universal use in cartilage-repair protocols, the human evidence could not support definitive conclusions about CPM benefit — only 4 heterogeneous low-level studies existed. CPM is tradition-and-theory driven, not proven.
- Population
- 4 Level III human studies of CPM after knee cartilage restoration
- Intervention
- Continuous passive motion machines postoperatively
- Comparator
- No CPM / varied
- Limitations
- Only Level III evidence available; heterogeneity prevented pooling; no RCTs.
