Three-year low-dose menaquinone-7 supplementation helps decrease bone loss in healthy postmenopausal women

Knapen MH, Drummen NE, Smit E, Vermeer C, Theuwissen E · Osteoporosis International

Strongcounts toward this tier

The bone half of the same cohort: MK-7 improved vitamin K status and slowed the age-related decline in bone mineral content and density at the lumbar spine and femoral neck, though not at the total hip, and reduced loss of vertebral height in the lower thoracic spine. Femoral-neck bone-strength indices also favoured MK-7.

Population
Healthy postmenopausal women, 3 years
Intervention
MK-7 180 ug/day
Comparator
Placebo
Limitations
Healthy postmenopausal women; bone density and calculated strength indices rather than fractures; the authors state the result cannot be extrapolated to men or children; supplement supplied by its manufacturer.
