Vitamin K2 supplementation in haemodialysis patients: a randomized dose-finding study

Caluwé R, Vandecasteele S, Van Vlem B, Vermeer C, De Vriese AS · Nephrology, Dialysis, Transplantation

Promisingcounts toward this tier

Inactive matrix Gla protein fell 17%, 33% and 46% across the three ascending doses, and at baseline it correlated inversely with dietary menaquinone intake but not at all with phylloquinone intake — evidence that the menaquinone side of vitamin K intake is what tracks this marker.

Population
Chronic haemodialysis patients, 8 weeks
Intervention
MK-7 at 360, 720 or 1080 ug three times weekly
Comparator
The three doses against each other
Limitations
No placebo group; 8 weeks; biomarker endpoint only; dropouts were driven largely by the smell of the tablets; a dialysis population.
