Across quartiles from lowest to highest, 9-year mortality was 34.4%, 31.6%, 33.5% and 37.4% (p=0.67); the adjusted hazard ratio for the lowest versus highest quartile was 0.80 (95% CI 0.54 to 1.17). Resveratrol levels were unrelated to CRP, IL-6, IL-1beta, TNF, or prevalent or incident cardiovascular disease or cancer.

- Community-dwelling men and women aged 65 and over in the Chianti region of Italy, followed 9 years

- None — 24-hour urinary resveratrol metabolites measured as a marker of dietary intake

- Limitations
- Observational, and dietary resveratrol intake is orders of magnitude below supplement doses — this tests the red-wine story, not a 500 mg capsule. Urinary metabolites over 24 hours are an imperfect exposure marker.
