Effect of isometric quadriceps exercise on muscle strength, pain, and function in patients with knee osteoarthritis: a randomized controlled study

Anwer S, Alghadir A · Journal of Physical Therapy Science

Promisingcounts toward this tier

Isometric training significantly improved quadriceps strength, pain (VAS), and WOMAC function versus control (p<0.05) after 5 weeks. Isometrics are a viable low-tech entry point when joint-angle-specific loading is needed.

Population
42 outpatients aged 40-65 with knee OA
Intervention
Isometric quadriceps program (quad sets, straight-leg raise, hip adduction) 5 days/week for 5 weeks
Comparator
No-exercise control
Limitations
Small single-center trial, no active comparator, short duration, no blinding of participants.
