In vivo growth suppression of CT-26 mouse colorectal cancer cells by adenovirus-expressed small hairpin RNA specifically targeting thymosin beta-4 mRNA

Chao TC, Chan LC, Ju SY, Tang MC, Liu CY, Chen PM, Tzeng CH, Su Y · Cancer Gene Therapy

Preclinicalcounts toward this tier

Silencing Tβ4 induced apoptosis in culture and arrested tumour growth in vivo, which is why the oncology field treats Tβ4 as a target to block. The therapeutic direction in cancer is the opposite of the one gray-market use assumes.

Population
Nude mice bearing CT-26 mouse colorectal tumours
Intervention
Intratumoral adenovirus expressing shRNA against Tβ4
Comparator
Control virus
Limitations
Xenograft model in immunodeficient mice; knockdown inside tumour cells, not systemic depletion.
