Promisingcounts toward this tier

Tests the exact formulation and dose most commonly sold as C3 plus black pepper. LDL-C, non-HDL-C, total cholesterol, triglycerides and Lp(a) fell and HDL-C rose versus placebo; small dense LDL did not differ. Triglyceride, non-HDL-C, total cholesterol and Lp(a) effects survived adjustment for baseline lipids and BMI.

Population
Adults meeting NCEP-ATPIII criteria for metabolic syndrome, on standard of care, Iran
Intervention
C3 Complex curcuminoids 1000 mg/day with piperine (Bioperine) at 100:1, for 8 weeks
Comparator
Matched placebo
Limitations
n=100 over 8 weeks, single centre, add-on to standard care with an unstated funding source; lipid endpoints are surrogates for cardiovascular outcome, and this group's osteoarthritis work shares authors and methods.
