Intra-articular resveratrol injection prevents osteoarthritis progression in a mouse model by activating SIRT1 and thereby silencing HIF-2α

Li W, Cai L, Zhang Y, Cui L, Shen G · Journal of Orthopaedic Research

Preclinicalcounts toward this tier

Per its abstract, intra-articular resveratrol preserved cartilage and subchondral bone structure, retained type II collagen and reduced iNOS and MMP-13, with SIRT1 activation and HIF-2alpha suppression in mouse cartilage and in IL-1beta-treated human chondrocytes — the direct preclinical version of the SIRT1 rationale.

Population
Mice with surgically induced osteoarthritis (destabilization of the medial meniscus), plus IL-1beta-treated human chondrocytes in vitro
Intervention
Weekly intra-articular resveratrol injections starting 4 weeks after surgery
Comparator
Vehicle-injected operated knees
Limitations
Injected into the joint weekly — a delivery no oral supplement replicates. Full text paywalled; recorded from the abstract, which states directionality but no effect sizes.
