Preclinicalcounts toward this tier
One of the few experiments to test diet and exercise together rather than one at a time, in a surgical OA model with cartilage histology as the endpoint — and it separates the two geographical oil sources, so phenolic content is a variable rather than an assumption.
- Population
- Rats with anterior cruciate ligament transection, scored by Mankin and OARSI
- Intervention
- Diet enriched with extra-virgin olive oil and olive leaf extract, combined with physical activity
- Comparator
- Standard diet, with and without activity
- Limitations
- Rat model, and diet and activity are combined in the protective arm, so the two contributions cannot be fully separated.
