Consumption of 100% Tart Cherry Juice Reduces Serum Urate in Overweight and Obese Adults

Serum urate fell 19.2% on tart cherry juice (p < 0.05). hsCRP fell 19.4% and MCP-1 6.3%, neither reaching significance (p = 0.09 and p = 0.08). Lipids, glycaemia and insulin resistance did not move.

Population
Overweight and obese adults (BMI > 25), 18 women and 8 men
Intervention
240 mL/day of 100% tart cherry juice for 4 weeks
Comparator
Placebo beverage, crossover with a 4-week washout
Limitations
n=26, healthy-but-overweight rather than diseased, 4 weeks, and the inflammatory markers the entry cares about missed significance. Registered NCT03636529.
