A methodological correction that retroactively casts doubt on a chunk of the field. Results were inconsistent across FBS lots because commercial FBS itself contains ~70-100 uM hydroxyprolyl peptides including Pro-Hyp, masking any added effect. Only after stripping compounds below 6 kDa from the serum did Pro-Hyp and Hyp-Gly again show growth and migration effects. Any older Pro-Hyp cell study using unstripped serum is suspect.

Limitations
Mouse skin fibroblasts, not human chondrocytes — it is about skin rather than cartilage. One author is at Nitta Gelatin Inc. Notable that an industry-affiliated group published the correction against its own prior literature.
