Both routes restored macroscopic, biomechanical and functional measures and normalised eNOS and COX-2 mRNA, oxidative stress and NO levels; inflammatory infiltrate was gone and oriented junction tissue present by days 28–42, with the defect closing rather than persisting.
- Population
- Rats with the quadriceps tendon dissected from the quadriceps muscle — a junction defect that does not heal spontaneously
- Intervention
- BPC 157 10 µg/kg or 10 ng/kg i.p., or per-orally in drinking water (0.16 µg/mL or 0.16 ng/mL), to day 7, 14, 28 or 42
- Comparator
- Untreated junction defect
- Limitations
- Originating network; the drinking-water arm makes ingested dose approximate rather than controlled.
