Promisingcounts toward this tier
Across all three evidence types the direction is consistent: better clinical scores in the human studies, and lower inflammatory, oxidative-stress and apoptosis markers in the animal and cell work. The authors read this as justification for larger clinical studies rather than as a settled result.
- Population
- 23 human, animal and in-vitro studies of pomegranate in osteoarthritis, searched to February 2021
- Intervention
- Pomegranate juice, extract or isolated constituents
- Comparator
- Varies
- Limitations
- Registered in PROSPERO, but pools human, animal and in-vitro studies into a single narrative conclusion, and no meta-analysis was attempted. Both authors are at the institution that produced several of the included trials.
