The anti-nociceptive effect of BPC-157 on the incisional pain model in rats

All three doses raised the mechanical withdrawal threshold at 2 hours and again at day 4, but the effect did not persist and the formalin test moved only in phase 1, not phase 2 — the analgesia is short-lived and peripheral rather than centrally mediated.

Population

Sprague-Dawley rats with a 1 cm hind-paw plantar incision, plus a formalin test

Intervention

BPC-157 10, 20 or 40 µg/kg

Comparator

Morphine 5 mg/kg and saline

Limitations

Independent Korean group; a partly negative result, and no dose-response separation between 10 and 40 µg/kg.
