Useful for one thing this entry needs and candid about it: resveratrol is not a selective SIRT1 tool. The review lists AMPK, complex III of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, PARP1 and phosphodiesterase among its targets, and says the search for less promiscuous activators is what produced the synthetic sirtuin-activating compounds. It also records that the effect is dose-dependent rather than monotonic: in yeast, low doses extended lifespan about 70 percent while higher doses had only minor effects, and in flies the maximal effect sat at 200 micromolar in females and 100 in males.
