Effect of BPC-157 on Symptoms in Patients with Interstitial Cystitis: A Pilot Study

Ten of twelve reported complete symptom resolution, rating their success at 100%, and the other two rated 80% with about a fifth of symptoms lingering; the paper records all twelve as scoring 5 of 5 on the Global Response Assessment, with no dropouts and no adverse events. The scoring was collected retrospectively, most patients being contacted four to six months after the procedure.

Population

Twelve women aged 39–76, mean 58.3, with moderate-to-severe interstitial cystitis, none of whom had responded to pentosan polysulfate; ten White, one Asian, one Latina, at a private Orlando urogynaecology clinic

Intervention

A single procedure injecting 10 mg BPC-157 (503A compounded) around the inflamed bladder wall at cystoscopy, identified by chart review of January 2023 to June 2024

Limitations

Uncontrolled, unblinded, single-arm, single clinic, and the endpoint is a single-item questionnaire answered months afterwards. Every patient had a baseline cystoscopy and another at six weeks, and the paper reports nothing about what those showed, so the one objective measure it collected goes unreported. The authors declare no conflict of interest and the paper carries no funding statement.
