Anecdotalcounts toward this tier
Severe thrombocytopenia and ischemic stroke during PPS treatment, with a strongly positive ELISA for heparin-induced-thrombocytopenia antibodies — evidence that PPS can trigger the same immune platelet-activation syndrome as heparin.
- Population
- One patient on PPS treatment
- Intervention
- Pentosan polysulfate (thrombosis-prophylaxis era use)
- Comparator
- None
- Limitations
- Single case within a small older case literature from PPS's European antithrombotic use; rare, but the failure mode is thrombosis, not just low platelets.
